Bamboo Farming Takes 20 Seconds of Courage

Often, fear is in our heads; It’s all around us. And our brain is wicked because it has a negativity bias. But when your mind is clear and you’re taking care of your body, you can move forward in significant ways.

Years ago, I heard this brilliant line from the movie “We Bought a Zoo” starring Matt Damon. Matt Damon’s character was talking with his son, who was having a challenging time with a girl he liked, and he told his son, “sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just 20 seconds of embarrassing bravery.”

Just think about that. What if you mustered up the courage for just 20 seconds? Wouldn’t your life be different?

Maybe you got the courage to ask your longtime partner to marry you or asked for the promotion you deserved--wouldn’t that be worth 20 seconds of embarrassment?

The Bamboo Farmers that I know all have this trait of courage. When they get the courage to push forward, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s all part of the watering process.

So think about that line often and know that your life could be different if you had 20 seconds of insane courage every day. I promise you something great will come of it. The greatness will come from the experience of courage. You would have a remarkable bamboo farming life if you did that 20 seconds of insane courage. I know it.
